設台建議獲批 / Observatory proposal approved
香港天文台：設立天文台的建議經修訂後於 1882 年獲批；首任天文司杜伯克博士 1883 年夏天抵港，天文台同年創立，早期工作包括氣象觀測、授時、地磁觀測及發出熱帶氣旋警告。
Hong Kong Observatory: the proposal, revised by Price, was approved in 1882; the first Director, Dr Doberck, arrived in the summer of 1883, when the Observatory was founded. Its early work covered weather observations, time service, geomagnetic work and tropical cyclone warnings.
