Declared monuments of Hong Kong, by area and district
Under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance, the Antiquities Authority may declare a place, building, site or structure a monument by notice in the Gazette after consulting the Antiquities Advisory Board and with the Chief Executive's approval. Monuments are protected by law and any alteration requires approval. This registry lists declared monuments only; graded historic buildings (Grades I to III) are a separate, much larger list.

The Old Supreme Court Building at 8 Jackson Road, Central, was begun in 1900 and completed in 1912 on reclaimed land supported by Chinese fir piles. It was designed by the British architects Aston Webb and E. Ingress Bell and opened as the home of the Supreme Court. The building is neoclassical in style, with a blindfolded statue of Justice on its front; the statue was removed during the Japanese occupation and later recovered and put back. After the Supreme Court moved out in 1985, the building housed the Legislative Council until 2011, and since 2015 it has accommodated the Court of Final Appeal. Its exterior was declared a monument in 1984.

The former Victoria Prison stands on the slope of Hollywood Road in Central and is among the earliest colonial buildings in Hong Kong to use durable construction materials. After Britain occupied Hong Kong Island in 1841, establishing law and order was a priority, and a stone prison was built on this hillside. The prison was later expanded in stages and, together with the adjoining former Central Police Station and former Central Magistracy, forms a group of buildings that illustrates the history of law enforcement and justice in Hong Kong. All three were declared monuments in 1995. The prison ceased operation in 2006, and the whole compound was revitalised as Tai Kwun, Centre for Heritage and Arts, which opened to the public in 2018.

Murray House was originally built in Central and completed in 1846 as officers' quarters for the Murray Barracks, making it one of Hong Kong's oldest surviving colonial buildings. It is built of locally quarried granite in a neoclassical style, with columns and deep verandahs suited to the hot and humid climate, and it takes its name from Sir George Murray, then Britain's Master-General of the Ordnance. In 1982 the building was dismantled to make way for the Bank of China Tower, and more than three thousand numbered components were put into storage. They were later reassembled on the Stanley waterfront in the early 2000s; the building now houses restaurants and shops and is a landmark of the Southern District.

The granite steps at the southern end of Duddell Street in Central were built in the 1880s. They are about four metres wide and some twenty metres long, and four gas lamps stand on the balustrades at the head and foot of the steps on either side. The lamps were originally lit by hand and are now operated automatically. Since street lighting in Hong Kong was electrified in 1967, these four have remained the only working gas lamps of their kind in the city. This group of buildings stands at the junction of Johnston Road and Tai Yuen Street, in the heart of Wan Chai's old market district. Wan Chai is one of Hong Kong's earliest settled communities, and after late nineteenth-century reclamation Johnston Road became a main commercial spine of the area, while the adjoining Tai Yuen Street remains a traditional street market, popularly known as Toy Street. The buildings are pre-war tong lau of the verandah type, several storeys high, with shops on the ground floor and living quarters above, and balconies linked to covered walkways. Graded as Grade I historic buildings, they survive in a district where the Urban Renewal Authority's works around the Tai Yuen Street and Cross Street market have sought to keep the street atmosphere alive.

King Yin Lei stands at 45 Stubbs Road in Wan Chai. Originally named Hei Lo, it was built in 1937 by the merchant Shum Yat-chor and his wife Shum Li Po-lun as a residence in the Chinese Renaissance style, with red brick walls and a Chinese tiled roof, eaves and pavilions. The property changed hands in 1978, and when part of it was demolished by its owner in 2007 public concern was aroused, prompting the government to declare it a proposed monument. The government and the owner then reached a non-in-situ land exchange, under which King Yin Lei was returned to the government for conservation and declared a monument in July 2008; full restoration followed. The building has been included in the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme and is being planned for adaptive re-use promoting tea culture and Chinese medicine.

Lo Wai, west of the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall in Lung Yeuk Tau, Fanling, is the earliest walled village founded in the area and one of its five walled villages. It stands on a small hill encircled by walls. Its gate is said to have faced north originally but was turned east for feng shui reasons, and it is deliberately narrow for defence. Houses inside are neatly laid out; a well by the gate was once the villagers' water source, and watch platforms were built on the walls. Despite repeated alterations, the walls and layout survive largely intact. In 1997 the village was fully restored with funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and the gatehouse and walls were declared monuments that same year.

Tung Lok Wai, also known as Ling Kok Wai, is one of the five walled villages of Lung Yeuk Tau in Fanling; its name comes from its position east of Lung Yeuk Tau. It was founded by Tang Lung-kong (1363-1421), the thirteenth-generation ancestor of the Tang clan, and is about six hundred years old. The village was built on a raised platform to protect its houses from flooding, and contains four rows of dwellings facing northwest. It once had enclosing walls and a moat, with watchtowers at the corners of the walls; the shrine at the end of the gate passage is gone, leaving only the gatehouse and part of the walls.
Wing Ning Tsuen, adjoining Wing Ning Wai in Lung Yeuk Tau, Fanling, is also called Tai Teng. It began as a branch of Wing Ning Wai and is about three hundred years old. Its site is said to have been called Hung Sha Leng, meaning red sand ridge, because of the reddish soil. The original houses were arranged in three rows all facing northeast, with the front row lower than those behind so as to secure better feng shui; today most have been rebuilt, and the fish pond in front of the village has been turned into a sitting-out area. Tai O's stilt houses are built on wooden poles or concrete piles over the tidal channels at the western tip of Lantau Island, forming one of Hong Kong's last surviving stilt-house settlements. The residents are largely Tanka fishing families who once lived on boats. The stilt houses along the main and second creeks are the oldest, while the San Kei area took shape around the 1920s; their number was regulated and fixed by the early 1980s. In July 2000 a major fire destroyed about a fifth of the stilt houses. Villagers rebuilt on the same sites, often using reinforced concrete piles and metal materials, with a relaxed height limit of fifteen feet and roofs used as drying decks. Linked by timber bridges and boardwalks, many surviving stilt houses have been assessed for heritage grading.
