Tong Kai (7 January 1937 – 23 June 2025), born Wong Tong and also known as Wong Lung-kei and nicknamed 'Kai Gor', was a Hong Kong action choreographer, director and actor and the husband of the actress Suet Nei. Born in Macau as the eldest of nine children to a seaman father and a mother who worked on the docks, he was trained under Yuen Siu-tien and Yuen Siu-tien's peer in northern martial arts and Peking-opera technique, building the groundwork for a career in action design. From the 1960s to the 1970s he and Lau Kar-leung were the regular action choreographers for the director Chang Cheh, designing many classic fight sequences that became a hallmark of 1960s Shaw Brothers swordplay films; in 1966 he and Lau introduced wirework on The Jade Bow, heightening the visual impact of the action. After Lau turned director in 1975 Tong worked independently, long collaborating with directors such as Chor Yuen and Sun Chung; his best-known work came on Chor Yuen's adaptations of Gu Long novels, including The Sentimental Swordsman, The Magic Blade and Swordsman and Enchantress. For The Magic Blade he devised a blade able to spin through 360 degrees, admired even by the novelist Gu Long himself. He began directing in the 1980s, with credits including Shaolin Prince, Shaolin Intruders and The Master of Hung Fist, noted for his distinctive fight formations, and he also took acting cameos; in the 1990s he was still action director on Tsui Hark's Green Snake. He emigrated to Canada in the late 1980s and returned to Hong Kong in the 1990s, working on close to two hundred films. On 23 June 2025 he died after falling from a building at the junction of Austin Road and Pine Street in Jordan, aged 88.

Alongside Lau Kar-leung in Chang Cheh's team, Tong Kai brought muscular southern-style combat to the screen and devised such touches as the spinning blade in Chor Yuen's Gu Long adaptations. After moving from action direction into directing he carried the style further, his kung fu films forming an important strand of Shaw Brothers martial-arts cinema.
