Miriam Yeung Chin-wah was born in Hong Kong on 3 February 1974 and works as a singer and actress. She entered the industry in 1995 after finishing third in the New Talent Singing Awards, co-organised by TVB and Capital Artists, and drew wide attention in 1997 with the song Goodbye Yat Ding Muk. Known for her down-to-earth image and voice, she became one of the most popular Cantopop singers of the 2000s with hits such as Maiden's Prayer, Sisters, It's a Pity I'm an Aquarius and Big City Story; Maiden's Prayer became her first song to top all four charts in 2000 and brought her a first gold prize for female singer at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards, It's a Pity I'm an Aquarius won a Top Ten Chinese Gold Song award in 2002, and Big City Story swept several music awards in 2004. In film she starred in comedies including Love Undercover, Dry Wood Fierce Fire and Perfect Wedding, winning the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award for Best Actress in 2010 for Perfect Wedding; that year her collaboration with Pang Ho-cheung, Love in a Puff, became a local talking point and earned her a Best Actress nomination at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2013 she won Best Actress at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards for her role as Cherie in Love in the Buff, becoming the second Hong Kong actress after Anita Mui to hold both a top singing prize and a Best Actress title. Her 2015 film Little Big Master, based on the true story of Lui Lai-hung, the headmistress of a Yuen Long kindergarten, took more than HK$46 million and was the year's highest-grossing local film, and brought her a Best Actress nomination at the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards; the series continued with Love Off the Cuff (2017). She is married to Real Ting and has a son, and remains active in music and film with frequent sold-out concerts.

Miriam Yeung moved from music into film, playing the 'Hong Kong girl' with an appealing down-to-earth quality, and is one of the few local performers to stand equally firm in Cantopop and cinema. Her Love in a Puff series with Pang Ho-cheung gave Hong Kong romantic films a new idiom, and her 2013 Best Actress win for Love in the Buff made her the second actress after Anita Mui to hold both a top singing prize and a film Best Actress title.
