Hing-Ka Chan (born 21 January 1959 in Hong Kong, with ancestral roots in Nanhai, Guangdong) is a Hong Kong screenwriter, director and producer who also writes under the pen names Ah Kuan and Nip Wang-fung. He studied at St Paul's College and St Peter's Secondary School, and graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He first worked with Lawrence Cheng on the radio drama series The Yuppie Fantasia, which was later turned into a novel and a film series and vividly caught the mindset of 1980s and 1990s men. He won Best Screenplay at the 8th Hong Kong Film Awards in 1989 as one of the writers of Heart to Hearts, alongside Kwok Kwok-wah, Gordon Chan and Yip Kwong-kim; in 1990 he founded the co-operative studio with Gordon Chan and Lawrence Cheng and wrote its first film, and his The Yuppie Fantasia was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1999 he won Best Screenplay at the 18th Hong Kong Film Awards for Beast Cops, written with Gordon Chan. In 2000 he won the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award for Best Screenplay for Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone, written with Chin Siu-wai. Turning to directing, he made his debut with La Brassiere (2001), one of the year's biggest local hits, and went on to direct and produce comedies such as La Brassiere 2 and Poker King, often centred on urban romance and everyday relationships. He has long written newspaper columns under a pen name and now writes for Ming Pao and the Hong Kong Economic Journal, known for treating relationships and social habits in light comedy, and is among the screenwriters who became directors in Hong Kong cinema.

Chan Hing-ka, twice a Hong Kong Film Awards Best Screenplay winner, drew much of his comedy from radio serials and urban life, then turned to directing and producing to continue writing about the manners and moods of the city.
