Fei Ai is a research assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He took a bachelor's degree in biomaterials engineering at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2016 and a PhD in mechanical and automation engineering at CUHK in 2023. After his doctorate he was a research scientist at Luquos Energy Limited in Hong Kong, taking part in the development and scale-up of advanced electrochemical energy storage technologies. His research focuses on electrolyte design and electrochemical interfaces for energy storage: the electrolyte carries ions while reactions at the interface govern battery life and efficiency, and both are central to improving storage devices. His path runs from biomaterials to mechanical and automation engineering and then to electrochemical storage, a genuinely interdisciplinary training.
Ai works on the materials and interfaces inside storage devices and has experience of industrial scale-up; moving from laboratory to company and back to university lets his work address both mechanism and application.
