As of 2026-10-14

Ben Fei is a research assistant professor in the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he was previously a postdoctoral researcher. He took a PhD in computer science and a master's degree in materials science at Fudan University, the two degrees representing training in computational methods on one side and materials experiments on the other. His research interests include three-dimensional computer vision, generative models, multi-scale modelling, AI for science and embodied AI for science. These point in one direction: using machine-learning models to understand and generate three-dimensional worlds and applying them to scientific problems such as materials. The departmental page does not list individual paper titles, so this entry follows the degrees, post and research interests recorded there.

Fei connects 3D vision and generative models to scientific applications; a master's in materials science lets him apply machine learning to materials characterisation and design, a typical combination in AI for science.
