Darwin Tat Ming Lau is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He took a bachelor's degree in engineering with first-class honours and a bachelor's degree in computer science at the University of Melbourne in 2008, the two degrees coming from the engineering and science faculties respectively. He completed a PhD in robotics at Melbourne in 2014. From 2014 to 2015 he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics at the University of Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris, and in October 2015 he joined CUHK, where he is now an associate professor. His training runs from mechanical engineering into computer science and robotics, a combination that matches a field requiring both mechanism design and algorithms.
Lau's path runs from Melbourne to Paris and back to Hong Kong with research and teaching centred on robotics; dual degrees in engineering and computer science give him both mechanism design and algorithms.
