LEE Ka Shing

Dr Martin Lee Ka Shing is chairman and chief executive officer of Miramar Hotel and Investment Company, and holds the Gold Bauhinia Star and a Justice of the Peace appointment. The directors' information section of the company's 2025 annual report records that he was 54, was appointed a director in 2004, became managing director on 1 August 2006, had his title changed to chief executive officer on 7 June 2012, and was re-designated chairman and CEO on 12 June 2014, responsible for policy formulation, corporate planning and driving business expansion. His position in the wider group extends well beyond Miramar. The report lists him as chairman and managing director of Henderson Land Development Company Limited and Henderson Investment Limited, and chairman of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited, all listed companies; he also chairs Henderson Land Company Limited and sits on the boards of several private holding companies. In effect he occupies several of the core boardrooms of Hong Kong property and utilities at once, with Miramar serving as the hotel and tourism asset platform within that network. On public service, the report records that he is a standing committee member of the fourteenth Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a member of the university advisory committees of both the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the City University of Hong Kong. His academic honours include an honorary fellowship from University College London in 2021 and an honorary doctorate in social science from Hong Kong Hang Seng University in 2022. The report also notes that he was educated in Canada. At Miramar his role fuses the board and the executive: he chairs the nomination committee and sits on the remuneration committee, taking a direct part in decisions on senior appointments and incentives. For a hotel company controlled by a property group, that arrangement means strategy is set within the major shareholder's system while day-to-day operations are coordinated by the same person as chairman and CEO.
