Zhiding Liang is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He took his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December 2020 and his PhD at the University of Notre Dame in 2024; from 2024 to 2025 he was an assistant professor in the computer science department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, supported by a National Science Foundation grant and an IBM research fund. His work has appeared at conferences and in journals including ISCA, DAC, ICCAD, QCE, SIGMETRICS, TCAD, TVLSI, TSG, TQE and TVCG, and he was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in both 2021 and 2022, named a rising star in machine learning and systems in 2025, and nominated by Notre Dame for the Edison Innovation Fellowship. Beyond research he works on quantum computing education: he co-founded the Quantum Computer System lecture series open to the wider community, and is one of the main contributors to the TorchQuantum library, which has been adopted by the IBM Qiskit and PyTorch ecosystems.
Liang's work spans quantum computing systems, computer architecture and machine-learning systems, and through TorchQuantum and the public lecture series he carries that work into open-source communities and beyond the classroom.
