Xiaojun Lin is a professor in the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which he joined in June 2023 as a professor and Global STEM Scholar. He took a bachelor's degree in electronics and information systems at Zhongshan University in Guangzhou in 1994, then went to the United States, completing master's and doctoral degrees in electrical and computer engineering at Purdue University in 2000 and 2005. In August 2005 he joined Purdue's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an assistant professor, was promoted to professor in 2017, and taught there until 2023. His research focuses on fundamental problems in machine learning and networking, and he has contributed to the analysis, learning and control of large and complex networked systems, including communication networks and cyber-physical systems such as the smart power grid.
Lin studies learning and control in large networked systems, from communication networks to cyber-physical systems such as the smart grid; his move from Purdue to CUHK reflects how the local information-engineering department connects with the international networking research community.
