Shi Qiu is a research assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is affiliated with the university's Institute of Medical Intelligence and XR, where he works on medical extended-reality systems. He took a bachelor's degree in electronic and information engineering at Dalian University of Technology in 2015, master's degrees in digital media technology with distinction at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and University College London in 2017, and a PhD in engineering and computer science at the Australian National University in 2023. His main research interests are three-dimensional computer vision, computer graphics and virtual and augmented reality, with papers in venues including IEEE T-PAMI, CVPR and ICCV. Before joining CUHK he worked with organisations such as Australia's CSIRO, Tencent and Vivo, gaining industrial research and development experience.
Qiu applies 3D vision and graphics to extended reality and then to medical settings: with experience in both academic publication and industrial development, his work runs from algorithms to medical XR systems intended for practical use.
