Hoover Ho Fai Yin is an assistant professor in the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which he joined in August 2022. All of his degrees are from CUHK: a Bachelor of Science in mathematics (information science stream) in 2013, a Bachelor of Engineering in information engineering (telecommunications and information processing streams) in 2014, and a PhD in information engineering in 2019. After his doctorate he was a postdoctoral fellow at the university's Institute of Network Coding. His main research interest is batched network coding, and he is also interested in computer and network systems, combinatorics and coding theory. Batched network coding addresses packet loss and delay in real network transmission, making it a meeting point between coding theory and network systems.
Yin works on the practical side of network coding in real networks; having studied at CUHK from undergraduate to doctoral level and stayed on to teach, he is a locally trained information-engineering researcher.
