Hanrui Zhang is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on economics and computation — using computer-science techniques to address problems with economic motivations. Typical questions in the field include auctions and mechanism design, resource allocation and pricing algorithms, where the central issue is designing rules so that outcomes remain reasonable when several self-interested parties act. He teaches and researches in the department.
Zhang works where algorithms meet economics, with applications in advertising auctions, platform pricing and resource allocation.
