Oxide Pang Chun was born on 11 November 1965, fifteen minutes older than his twin brother Danny; together they are known as the Pang Brothers, one of Hong Kong's best-known horror partnerships. Growing up in Whampoa's Ka Wai Chuen, Oxide began in film editing and cinematography, becoming a sought-after editor in the 1990s. He directed 'Who's Running?' in 1997 and the Thai film 'Bangkok Dangerous' in 1999, winning Best Director at Thailand's national film awards, which made his name in the region. In 2002 he co-directed 'The Eye' with Danny, using the theme of ghostly sight to build dread and cementing the twins' standing in Asian horror. Later collaborations include 'The Eye 2' (2004), 'Re-cycle' (2006), 'The Detective' (2007) and 'The Storm Warriors' (2009), extending from the supernatural to detective and effects-driven blockbusters. In 2008 he remade 'Bangkok Dangerous' for Hollywood. He married actress Angelica Lee in 2010.
With 'The Eye', the Pang Brothers helped drive the early-2000s Asian horror boom, blending Thai production experience with Hong Kong genre craft and opening up a cross-border production model. Because Oxide also edits and shoots, the visual style and pacing of their films became a signature of Pang Brothers productions, briefly restoring overseas attention to Hong Kong horror.
