Nora Lam Tze-wing (born 1995) is a Hong Kong documentary director. After attending St. Paul's Convent School she entered the University of Hong Kong in 2013, majoring in comparative literature and French, and reported for the HKU Students' Union campus television, where she began working with moving images and decided to record society through documentary. In November 2014 she directed a 19-minute film on the Umbrella Movement, shortlisted in the open category of the 21st ifva Awards. In 2016 she completed a second, 76-minute film on the same subject, co-directed with Wong Chung-long, which was invited to the Hong Kong Independent Film Festival. Graduating from HKU in June 2017, she released her first feature documentary in November that year, produced by veteran filmmaker Vincent Chui and running about 96 minutes, following her university classmate Leung Tin-kei of the localist camp through his 2016 Legislative Council election campaign. It screened at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival and other festivals and won a Film Recommendation at the 24th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, a Jury Special Award at the 2018 South Taiwan Film Festival and a jury prize in the Chinese-language documentary section of the 11th Taiwan festival. In 2018 she directed and narrated an episode of RTHK's Chinese Writers series on Li Yi; in 2019 she made the Fresh Wave short A Whole Lot of Chicken and co-directed a short with Wong Ho-yin; she filmed Sunday Morning in 2020 and in 2021 directed and devised a web drama. She has continued as an independent filmmaker, focusing on the identity of Hong Kong's younger generation.
A young director who filmed the Umbrella Movement and Leung Tin-kei, Lam preserved images of 2010s Hong Kong activism outside official channels and, through overseas festivals, helped outsiders understand the identity of the city's younger generation.
