Aaron Kwok Fu-shing was born in Hong Kong on 26 October 1965, with family roots in Shilong, Dongguan, Guangdong, and is a singer, dancer and actor. He studied at St. Joseph's College and joined TVB's dance training class in 1984, working first as a background dancer for other singers' concerts. A 1990 motorcycle commercial filmed in Taiwan brought him to notice, and his debut Mandarin album, released that September, sold over a million copies across Asia and made him a star. In 1992 the Hong Kong media grouped him with Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau and Leon Lai as the 'Four Heavenly Kings', the last of the four to be included. Known for his energetic song-and-dance routines, he has released more than thirty Cantonese and Mandarin albums, with hits such as Can't Stop Loving You and Wild City, and his concerts are famed for elaborate staging and choreography and for world tours; his signature steps and gestures became emblems of 1990s Hong Kong pop culture, and certain dates have been proclaimed 'Aaron Kwok Day' in parts of the United States. He is called the 'Asian Dance King', his centre-parted 'Aaron Kwok hairstyle' became a youth fashion, and in 1993 the state sports commission named him a 'Star of the National Games'. In cinema he has appeared in over fifty films, winning the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor in 2005 for Divergence and again in 2006 for After This Our Exile, only the second actor after Jackie Chan to take the award twice in succession, and taking the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor in 2016 for Port of Call. His other films include The Storm Riders, the Cold War series, Project Gutenberg and I'm Livin' It. He has served as a UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Ambassador and taken part in its fundraising.
Rising in the 1990s as a singer-dancer, Kwok helped define Cantonese pop's golden age alongside the other 'Heavenly Kings', and his concert staging and dance style influenced later male Chinese-language singers; he then completed a move from idol to actor with award-winning roles in Divergence, After This Our Exile and Port of Call.
