《香港年報2021》指出，二十世紀二十年代起的考古研究，在沿岸多處發現古代人類活動遺蹟，證明本港歷史可追溯至六千多年前。最早期文化約在公元前四千年出現。

Hong Kong Yearbook 2021 states that archaeological work since the 1920s has found ancient activity along the shoreline spanning more than 6,000 years. The earliest cultures emerged around 4000 BC.
