Peter Kwong Kong-kit was the ninth Bishop of Hong Kong and the first Archbishop of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. The province's official history records that he was consecrated the ninth Bishop of Hong Kong in 1981, becoming the first Chinese bishop of Hong Kong and Macau, and that over the following 26 years he led the church with what the page calls a steady hand and a clear vision; he restructured church policy, structures and finances, and helped the church build relations with the Chinese government so that it could make a stable transition to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region after 1997. The same page records that after seven years of preparation the province was formally established on 25 October 1998 as the 38th province of the Anglican Communion, and that he was elected its first Archbishop and Primate; he retired in 2007. The official list of past bishops gives his bishopric as 1981 to 1998 and his archbishopric as 1998 to 2006, while the history runs the bishopric to 2006; the two pages do not agree.
