In 1540, the Ming dynasty divided the coastal defence troops against Japanese pirates in Guangdong waters into three routes, with Nantou City in Dongguan County as the starting point of the middle route, patrolling sea anchorages such as Fat Tong Mun, Leng Shui Kok and Cross Gate, covering present-day Hong Kong.
