1939年1月17日，林柏生（香港《南華日報》社長）在德輔道中被兩名工人用鐵錘與鐵棍打傷，傷勢嚴重；此前他曾協助汪精衞刊出「艷電」，主張對日談和。
On 17 January 1939, Lin Bosheng (president of the Hong Kong South China Daily) was severely injured on Des Voeux Road Central when two workers attacked him with an iron hammer and an iron rod; he had earlier assisted Wang Jingwei in publishing the "Yan Telegram", which advocated peace talks with Japan.
