1958年8月6日，港府將培僑中學校長杜伯奎遞解出境；其校監一職已被撤銷，惟校務仍由其照管。
On 6 August 1958, the Hong Kong Government deported Du Bokui, principal of Pui Kiu Middle School; his position as supervisor had been revoked, but he still managed school affairs.

1958年8月11日，關山憑《阿Q正傳》在瑞士洛迦諾國際電影節第12屆獲銀帆獎，是香港首位國際影帝。
On 11 August 1958, Kwan Shan won the Silver Sail Award for The True Story of Ah Q at the 12th Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland, becoming Hong Kong's first international best actor.

1958年8月26日，中華中學遭警方以樓宇結構安全為由封閉校舍，期間與校內師生及採訪記者爆發肢體衝突，其後中國外交部就事件向英國政府表達抗議。
On 26 August 1958, Chung Wah Middle School was closed by police on grounds of building structural safety, during which physical clashes broke out with teachers, students and reporting journalists, and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsequently protested to the British government over the incident.
