Background

'Ai Dao Fa Shao' ('Love to Fever') appears on George Lam's self-titled 1984 album released by Warner Music Hong Kong, with Cantonese lyrics by Richard Lam (林振強) and arrangement by Chris Babida. Its melody is the American band Dazz Band's 1982 funk track 'Let It Whip' (from the album Keep It Live, written by Reggie Andrews and Leon 'Ndugu' Chancler). The Hong Kong version keeps the original's driving funk groove and replaces the English lyrics with Lam's Cantonese words about being consumed by romantic desire. It became one of Lam's signature uptempo hits and is a typical example of 1980s Cantopop adapting an American pop song.
