Background
Red Sun is Hacken Lee's signature Cantonese anthem, released in October 1992 on his album Red Sun (Philips/PolyGram) and used as the theme of the TVB drama He Came from Heaven. It adapts Sore ga Daiji (That's What Matters), a single by the Japanese band Daijiman Brothers Band released on 25 August 1991 and written and composed by its vocalist Toshiyuki Tachikawa, the group's breakthrough hit. Lee wrote the Cantonese lyrics himself, converting the original's don't-give-up message into a rousing Cantonese call to perseverance. The song is regarded as an enduring inspirational standard in Cantopop and is still widely covered and quoted today.
