Background

Every Day I Love You More was Jacky Cheung's breakout Cantonese hit of 1991, from his album Love & Obsession, released by PolyGram on 23 January 1991. It adapts Manatsu no Kajitsu (Fruits of Midsummer), a single by the Japanese band Southern All Stars issued on 25 July 1990, composed by its frontman Keisuke Kuwata and used as the theme of the film Inamura Jane, which he also directed. The Cantonese lyrics were by Richard Lam, arranged by Dou Chi-chi and produced by Michael Au, turning the original's summer melancholy into a vow of enduring love and marking a turning point in Cheung's career. Later Mandarin versions, including Kang Tse-pin's You in a Foreign Land and Cheung's own, plus Fiona Sit and Khalil Fong's Replay of Memories, reused the same melody.
