Primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong are categorised as: government schools (run by the government), aided schools (operated by sponsoring bodies, fully government-funded), Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools (government-subsidised but may charge fees), private schools (self-financed), and international schools (mostly using overseas curricula). Kindergartens are divided into non-profit-making and private independent.
