董浩雲

董浩雲（1912–1982），又名董兆榮，生於上海閘北，航運業巨擘，人稱「世界船王」。他父親在上海經營五金店，五十一歲去世後家境並不寬裕，董浩雲十六歲便到日資國際運輸株式會社當練習生，半年後考入金城銀行旗下的通成公司，1931年調往天津航業公司，1936年參與創辦中國航運公司，1949年來港發展，1969年創立東方海外。全盛時期他擁有一支超過一百五十艘貨輪、總載重逾一千萬噸的船隊，係世界七大船王之一，被譽為東方「奧納西斯」。他非常重視教育，1970年購入「伊麗莎白女王號」郵輪，改裝為海上大學「海上學府號」，可惜該船1972年1月在維港改裝期間失火沉沒，他隨即購入較小的「大西洋號」延續計劃，並同匹茲堡大學等院校合辦海上學術課程。1982年4月15日，他因心臟病在香港逝世，終年六十九歲；其長子董建華後來成為首任香港特別行政區行政長官。

C. Y. Tung (1912–1982), also known as Tung Chao-yung, was born in Zhabei, Shanghai, and became one of the world's great shipping magnates, known as a 'World Shipping King' and the 'Onassis of the East'. His father ran a hardware shop in Shanghai and died at 51, leaving the family far from wealthy; Tung became an apprentice at a Japanese shipping firm at sixteen, moved to the Tung Shing company under the Kin Cheng Bank, was posted to its Tianjin shipping arm in 1931, helped found Chinese Maritime Transport in 1936, moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and established Orient Overseas in 1969. At its height his fleet numbered more than 150 freighters with over 10 million deadweight tonnes, making him one of the world's seven great shipowners. He cared deeply about education: in 1970 he bought the liner Queen Elizabeth and began converting it into a floating university, the Seawise University, but it caught fire and sank in Victoria Harbour in January 1972; he acquired the smaller Atlantic to continue the programme, running seaborne academic courses with universities such as Pittsburgh. He died of a heart attack in Hong Kong on 15 April 1982, aged 69; his eldest son, Tung Chee-hwa, later became the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR.
