In 1704 (the 43rd year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing dynasty), the Qing government established the Dapeng Naval Force, comprising three forts and nine land-and-water xun, of which the eighth, Hung Heung Lo Xun, was located on today's Hong Kong Island.
