In September and October 1817 (the eighth month of the twenty-second year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing), the Qing court built eight additional coastal watch huts at Tung Chung Hau and constructed two batteries, seven soldiers' quarters and one powder magazine at the foot of Shek Sze Shan there.
