英國地磁學家薩賓於1874年6月18日，就卑路乍、歌連臣及馮．薛澤三人之觀測數據求取平均數；該三人錄得數值之年份依次為1843年、1851年、1858年。薩賓並據此得出香港磁偏角偏東0度37分，磁傾角30度17分。

On 18 June 1874, the British geomagnetist Sabine averaged the observation data of Belcher, Collinson and von Schätzer, whose readings were taken in 1843, 1851 and 1858 respectively; on this basis Sabine concluded that Hong Kong's magnetic declination was 0 degrees 37 minutes east and its magnetic inclination 30 degrees 17 minutes.
