1900年1月8日，祖籍澳洲的華僑商人馬應彪，於香港開設當地第一家由華人資本經營的百貨企業，名為先施公司；該店在零售業界率先推行固定價格、僱用女性店員以及提供購物單據等做法。

On 8 January 1900, Ma Ying-piu, an overseas Chinese merchant of Australian origin, opened in Hong Kong the first department store run by Chinese capital, named Sincere Company, which pioneered fixed prices, the employment of female shop assistants and the provision of shopping receipts in the retail trade.

1900年1月24日，楊衢雲從日本返港，辭去興中會會長職務，由孫中山接任。

On 24 January 1900, Yang Quyun returned to Hong Kong from Japan and resigned as president of the Xingzhonghui, with Sun Yat-sen succeeding him.

《中國日報》是香港興中會的機關報，創刊日期為1900年1月25日，首任社長由陳少白擔任，該報一直發行至1913年才停刊。

The China Daily was the organ of the Hong Kong Xingzhonghui, first published on 25 January 1900 with Chen Shaobai as its first president, and it continued publication until it ceased in 1913.
