On 1 June 1920, storm signals for Chinese waters were adopted by the Observatory at the request of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

The Societies Ordinance 1920 came into effect on 25 June 1920, granting the Governor in Council broad discretion to declare any society an unlawful organization on grounds specified in the Ordinance.

1920年6月25日，港府頒布名為《1920年社團條例》的法規，不再要求全部社團必須註冊，惟三合會社團，以及任何足以危害香港安寧與秩序的社團，均被列為非法組織。
On 25 June 1920, the Hong Kong government promulgated the Societies Ordinance 1920, which no longer required all societies to register, but classified triad societies and any societies likely to endanger the peace and order of Hong Kong as illegal organisations.
