On 9 March 1928, then Governor Cecil Clementi visited Guangzhou and stayed for three days, during which he met with Li Jishen, Chairman of Guangdong Province; this meeting was the highest-level contact between the Hong Kong government and the Guangzhou Nationalist Government after the end of the Canton-Hong Kong General Strike.
