1964年5月24日，林紀平（大埔林村鄉民）先以鳥槍射殺警目林奕仁，其後拒捕；約170名警員到場圍捕，最終林紀平被擊斃。事件中，一名警司、一名警目及一名警員身亡，另有12名警員受傷。
On 24 May 1964, Lam Kei-ping, a villager of Lam Tsuen in Tai Po, first shot and killed Police Sergeant Lam Yik-yan with a fowling piece and then resisted arrest; about 170 police officers arrived to surround him and Lam Kei-ping was eventually shot dead, with one superintendent, one sergeant and one constable killed and 12 other officers injured in the incident.

一九六四年五月二十九日，颱風維奧娜所帶來的雨帶使香港的乾旱情況獲得改善，當局因此將原本每四天供水四小時的措施，改為每兩天供水四小時；至七月一日，再放寬至每日供水八小時。
On 29 May 1964, the rain bands brought by Typhoon Viola improved Hong Kong's drought situation, prompting the authorities to change the original measure of supplying water for four hours every four days to four hours every two days; by 1 July it was further relaxed to eight hours of water supply per day.
