1970年1月1日，香港中山圖書館於九龍界限街啟用，由中國文化協會創辦，為私營圖書館，樓高3層，館藏75,000本，並有文化展覽室等設施，用以展出中國文物。
On 1 January 1970 the Hong Kong Chung Shan Library opened at Boundary Street, Kowloon, founded by the Chinese Culture Association as a private library, three storeys high with 75,000 volumes and facilities including a cultural exhibition room for displaying Chinese artefacts.

港府於1970年1月9日推行一條僱傭修訂條例，讓懷孕僱員享有十週無薪產假，其中產前佔四週、產後佔六週，期間僱主不得無故解僱。
On 9 January 1970, the Hong Kong Government implemented an amending employment ordinance granting pregnant employees ten weeks of unpaid maternity leave, comprising four weeks before and six weeks after delivery, during which employers could not dismiss them without cause.

1970年1月19日，北角一偽鈔集團遭警方偵破，檢獲770萬港元菲律賓披索及美元偽鈔，五人被捕。三名男被告於同年3月19日被裁定製造及藏有偽鈔罪成，各判監兩年；3月23日，一名女被告藏有偽鈔罪成，入獄一年半。
On 19 January 1970, a counterfeit banknote syndicate in North Point was broken up by police, with HK$7.7 million in Philippine pesos and US dollar counterfeits seized and five people arrested; three male defendants were convicted of manufacturing and possessing counterfeit banknotes on 19 March of the same year and each sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and on 23 March a female defendant was convicted of possessing counterfeit banknotes and jailed for one and a half years.

On 23 January 1970, Jardine Fleming was incorporated in Hong Kong, becoming the territory's first merchant bank (i.e. investment bank); the company was jointly funded by Jardine Matheson and the British firm Robert Fleming, with business covering investment management and financial advisory services.
