On 5 January 1972, the Kowloon Stock Exchange Limited, founded by Chan Po-fun, formally opened, being the fourth stock exchange in Hong Kong to obtain an operating licence and later becoming a founding member of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

On 31 January 1972, Jardine Matheson issued Eurodollar notes totalling US$15 million with attached warrants; trading in these warrants ran from February 1972 to November 1978, marking the beginning of warrant trading in Hong Kong.
