On 24 March 1974, the Professional Teachers' Union of Hong Kong held its first general meeting of member representatives, at which the first council was elected and Szeto Wah was elected as its first president.

自1974年3月29日起，新界民政署長的職銜改稱新界政務司，人選維持不變，繼續由鍾逸傑出任；其職責包括輔助港府規劃新界相關政策、推動新市鎮建設、保障原居民權益，以及統轄新界民政署。
From 29 March 1974, the title of the District Commissioner, New Territories was changed to Secretary for the New Territories, with the incumbent remaining unchanged as David Akers-Jones; his duties included assisting the Hong Kong Government in planning New Territories-related policies, promoting new town development, protecting the rights of indigenous inhabitants, and overseeing the New Territories District Administration.
