Between December 1986 and June 1987 Wong Cheung-chan, Yip Chun-ling, Chung Chiu-fat and Cheung Kai-man were successively convicted of conspiracy to defraud; Chung Chiu-fat was former managing director of the Hong Kong Deposit and Guaranty Company and Cheung Kai-man was former general manager of its Macao branch, and the four were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from two to eight years.
