公元917年8月至9月期間，劉龑登基建立政權，以「大越」為國號，至次年更名為「漢」，並將番禺定作都城，同時改元乾亨，又把廣州提升為興王府；當時香港一帶隸屬於興王府管轄下的東莞縣。
Between August and September 917 AD, Liu Yan ascended the throne and founded a regime with the state name "Great Yue", renamed it "Han" the following year, made Panyu the capital, changed the era name to Qianheng, and elevated Guangzhou to Xingwang Prefecture; the Hong Kong area then belonged to Dongguan County under Xingwang Prefecture.
