后海灣在該時期已有蠔類養殖活動，吐露港則存在珍珠採集行業，而元朗周邊的漁塘會向鹹魚製造業提供新鮮魚獲。

In that period, oyster farming already existed in Deep Bay, a pearl-gathering industry existed in Tolo Harbour, and fish ponds around Yuen Long supplied fresh fish to the salted fish manufacturing industry.

「海上女巫號」於1899年至1909年退役前多次測量，涵蓋印洲塘、吉澳海、大鵬灣、吐露港及大嶼山北部，集中東部水域。

From 1899 until her decommissioning in 1909, HMS Sea Witch carried out numerous surveys covering Yan Chau Tong, Kat O Hoi, Mirs Bay, Tolo Harbour and northern Lantau, concentrating on the eastern waters.
