Verified questions that cite this figure
Why is the cost of living in Hong Kong so high?
It is rents and services that are expensive rather than everything: the Composite CPI stood at 108.9 in 2025. Rent, labour cost and shop rents drive local service prices.
What is the minimum wage in Hong Kong?
The statutory minimum wage is HK$43.1 per hour from 1 May 2026. From the same date the monthly wage ceiling below which employers must keep hours records rises to HK$17,600.
Hong Kong’s tax system is simple, direct and territorial. The main taxes are profits tax, salaries tax and property tax. There is no VAT, GST, estate duty, dividend withholding tax or capital gains tax, and rates remain among the lowest among developed economies.
