沈祖堯係香港腸胃科醫生。2003年SARS肆虐期間，佢任職威爾斯親王醫院，親自帶領前線醫護照顧病人，喺疫症最混亂嘅日子成為醫護同市民嘅定心丸。其後佢推動消化道潰瘍出血同大腸癌篩查研究，成果改寫國際治療指引。2009年至2017年出任香港中文大學校長，其後轉任新加坡南洋理工大學校長，係極少數執掌兩地頂尖大學嘅香港學者。

A gastroenterologist trained at the University of Hong Kong, Joseph Sung became a frontline hero of the 2003 SARS outbreak, leading clinical care at Prince of Wales Hospital during the crisis. He went on to pioneer research on peptic-ulcer bleeding and colorectal cancer screening that reshaped international guidelines, and served as Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2009 to 2017, later leading Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
