工作實況：控制室日常
控制室操作員係物業保安團隊嘅中樞，長時間留守控制室，透過閉路電視、門禁同警報系統監察大廈或設施狀況。發現異常就調配巡邏同事處理，並記錄時間、位置同經過；遇上火警、爆竊、傷人或其他緊急事故，要按程序通知警方、消防處或管理層，並保留錄影片段等證據。部分控制室仲要處理訪客登記、升降機困人同停車場系統，工作強調專注同準確。
關卡：保安人員許可證（SPP）
按《保安及護衛服務條例》（第460章），任何為他人提供保安工作以换取報酬嘅人，都必須持有警務處處長發出嘅有效保安人員許可證（SPP）。申請須向警方牌照課提出，並符合《簽發保安人員許可證準則》，涵蓋年齡、體能同品格（例如過往嚴重定罪）等要求。許可證一般有效期五年，屆滿須續期；年滿六十五歲嘅持證人，須定期提交醫生證明以證明適合從事保安工作。冇有效許可證而做保安工作即屬違法。
培訓同晉升
唔少僱主要求新人先完成認可嘅保安培訓課程。呢類課程由保安及護衛業管理委員會認可，並經職業訓練局轄下知識及專業教育中心（PEAK）嘅質素保證系統（QASRS）認可，內容涵蓋法例、消防安全同實務技巧。控制室工作特別講求細心、紀律同應變，因為一個判斷足以影響整棟大廈嘅安全。累積經驗後，可晉升為控制室主管、保安主管，甚至轉往物業管理崗位。

The job: daily life in the control room
A control room operator is the hub of a property's security team, staying long hours in the control room and watching CCTV, access control and alarm systems across a building or facility. When something looks wrong, they deploy patrol staff and log the time, location and details; in fires, burglaries, assaults or other emergencies they notify the police, fire services or management under procedure and preserve evidence such as video clips. Some control rooms also handle visitor registration, lift entrapments and car park systems, and the work demands focus and accuracy.
The gate: the Security Personnel Permit
Under the Security and Guarding Services Ordinance (Cap. 460), anyone who performs security work for another person for reward must hold a valid Security Personnel Permit (SPP) issued by the Commissioner of Police. Applications are made to the Police Licensing Office and must meet the Criteria for Issuing a Security Personnel Permit, covering age, fitness and character, such as serious convictions in the past. A permit is normally valid for five years and must be renewed on expiry; holders aged 65 or above must submit medical certificates periodically to show they are fit for security work. Performing security work without a valid permit is an offence.
Training and progression
Many employers expect newcomers to complete a recognised security training course. Such courses are approved by the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority and recognised under the Quality Assurance System for Recognition Scheme (QASRS) run through PEAK of the Vocational Training Council, covering legislation, fire safety and practical skills. Control room work particularly demands care, discipline and quick judgement, because one decision can affect the safety of a whole building. With experience, staff can rise to control room supervisor, security supervisor, or move into property management roles.
