Hours are long and the rhythm is set by terminal and customer schedules: queueing at the gate, waiting for loading or unloading, checking container numbers and seals, then delivering as directed and reporting delays to dispatch. Safety centres on twist locks, load distribution and blind spots, so checks before moving off are essential.
A valid heavy goods or articulated vehicle licence is required, with some employers asking for experience, a clean record and a medical check; dangerous goods and abnormal loads carry extra legal requirements such as permits. Self-employed drivers carry their own vehicle maintenance, fuel and insurance costs.
Pay is calculated per trip, by piece rate or as a monthly wage with no statutory scale, and owner-drivers deduct fuel, maintenance and insurance, so this site prints no estimate. The route runs goods vehicle driver, container truck driver, fleet dispatcher or supervisor, then transport company owner.
