In 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing dynasty), Hau Cheuk-wan from Kam Tsin (present-day Kam Tsin Village in Sheung Shui) obtained the juren degree in the wushen provincial examination with a dissertation on the Book of Odes, and was subsequently appointed as education official of Ling Shan County.
