清道光九年（1829年），英國東印度公司所屬躉船把鴉片從印度運抵中國，通常大多停泊在伶仃洋範圍，若碰上颱風便改往香山縣金星門或香港附近水域；同年，於香港海域下錨的鴉片躉船數量至少達六艘。
In the ninth year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing dynasty (1829), hulks belonging to the British East India Company carried opium from India to China, usually anchoring mostly in the Lingdingyang area, or moving to Jinxingmen in Xiangshan County or waters near Hong Kong when typhoons struck; in the same year, at least six opium hulks anchored in Hong Kong waters.
