On 6 March 1841, the Daoguang Emperor of the Qing dynasty rebuked Britain for occupying Hong Kong and issuing false proclamations without authorisation, and appointed the military officers Yang Fang and Yishan to go south to Guangzhou and mobilise troops to retake Hong Kong Island.
