根據香港庫務司馬丁在1844年7月24日呈交的報告，怡和、顛地等主要洋行於該階段均以鴉片轉口貿易為其主要業務。

According to a report submitted by Hong Kong's Treasurer Martin on 24 July 1844, major foreign firms such as Jardine and Dent at that stage all took opium re-export trade as their main business.
