1845年5月3日，港府藉樞密院令，將多種貨幣列為香港法定貨幣，包括東印度公司金摩爾、西班牙銀元、墨西哥銀元、南美其他國家銀元、東印度公司盧比、中國銅錢，以及英國金幣、銀幣與銅幣。

On 3 May 1845, the Hong Kong government by Order in Council made various currencies legal tender in Hong Kong, including the East India Company gold mohur, Spanish silver dollars, Mexican silver dollars, silver dollars of other South American countries, East India Company rupees, Chinese copper cash, and British gold, silver and copper coins.

1845年5月3日，港府釐定官方匯率，規定每銀元可換四先令兩便士，每盧比可換一先令十便士，而每先令則可換288枚銅錢。

On 3 May 1845, the Hong Kong government set the official exchange rate at four shillings and twopence per silver dollar, one shilling and tenpence per rupee, and 288 copper coins per shilling.
