1845-06-02 · 香港

1845年6月2日，香港高等法院審理一宗誹謗案，涉及《中國之友》的編輯卡爾；該案為開埠後首宗同類案件，源於1844年7月13日他發表的文章，內容被指損害英國海軍少將科克倫名譽，經審理後卡爾獲判勝訴。

On 2 June 1845, the Hong Kong Supreme Court heard a libel case involving Carr, editor of the Friend of China; it was the first such case since the opening of the port, arising from an article he published on 13 July 1844 that was alleged to have damaged the reputation of British Rear-Admiral Cochrane, and after trial Carr was found in his favour.

港府於1845年6月7日立法，藉此應付警隊日常經費，該條例規定差餉按土地物業每年估值以固定比例逐季徵收。

On 7 June 1845, the Hong Kong Government legislated to meet the daily expenses of the police force, with the ordinance providing for rates to be collected quarterly at a fixed proportion of the annual assessed value of land and property.
